A Word for 2018

January 6, 2018

HAPPY NEW YEAR! May I bless you with a word of encouragement for 2018?  The LORD spoke through the Prophet Isaiah stating:

“Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things of the past.  Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it?  I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert…and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My chosen people.  The people whom I formed for Myself, will declare My praise!”  (Isaiah 43:18-21)

I want to encourage you to meditate on this passage because I believe the Lord wants to encourage you today and for 2018 that He is going to do a new thing, a new and good thing for you!  There are a few key points for us in this word:

  • He does not want you or me to dwell on our past accomplishments (although we can thank God for them  and remember them to build our faith), but when we dwell on our past accomplishments, we get our focus off of God and His new and good plans for us.
  • He does not want you or me to dwell on our past failures, mistakes or hardships.  When we do, we allow the devil to fill our minds with negative thoughts and we get pulled down, which then keeps us from the new and good plans God has for us!
  • But, when we believe God is going to do a new and good thing for us, then our spirit grows in faith and expectation for the new and good things God has for us.

For some of us, part or all of 2017 was a difficult year, but be encouraged today, for God says that He has something new for you in 2018! He wants to refresh you in the Holy Spirit.  He wants to pour out new vision in your heart.  He wants to do miracles and open new doors for you.

So, seek and ask our Good God what new things He has for you in 2018!

When we believe this truth and begin to declare God’s praise for who He is, for His grace and mercy, for His goodness, for His love and compassion, for His vision, for His breakthroughs and for the new things He is going to do, then He moves! So, be encouraged today, knowing that our Lord has new and good plans for you in 2018, and in faith:  expect it, be aware of what He is doing on your behalf and praise Him for this new year and the new things He is going to do for you!

Thank you for being a part of the blessings of God in our lives!  Because of many of you, lives are being changed in Jesus Christ to make a difference in the world. If you have any prayer requests, feel free to email them to us, for we would love to pray for you.

Kenya, Africa ~ March 2018

December 31, 2017

God is really moving in Kenya and you still have time to help make a difference as well as receive a tax deduction for 2017!  Your gift received by tomorrow night, 12/31/17, will assure that our Kenya March mission will be able to meet budget and be under written.

We are counting on God to once again do great things thru our ministry. Our Bible Institute (ELIM Theological Institute) and the orphanage we sponsor, Ebenezer Children’s Home and School, will be the focus of our mission trip.

We are writing to ask for your help to make this mission trip possible.  Our projects below continue and are growing!

Training Kenyan Pastors

ELIM Theological Institute is a mobile seminary” bringing seminary to those who can’t afford to go!

We have grown from 26 to 170 pastors and church leaders!

We have been ministering in a poor region of Kenya for seven years now ~providing them with the vital need of theological and ministry training as well as personally mentoring them.

Your support will help pre-fund our trip and pay for the following:  general school supplies, program materials, food and water for a week for the pastors and church leaders, translating expenses, travel expenses, facility rental, printing costs, transportation for some to attend, travel and lodging.

We emphasize skills they need for effective ministry and protection from false prophets and Islam…a good understanding of Bible knowledge and doctrine, the ability to speak and preach well, the capacity to lead people to Christ and disciple them, and the training to guide a church in areas of relationships, marriage, discernment, forgiveness and more.

We believe in empowering indigenous pastors, as it is the local Kenyan pastors who will have the greatest impact and can reach and disciple their people more effectively. And they have a greater propensity for multiplication.  Some churches have doubled and tripled in size!

We could not have seen God do miracles in their lives for many years now without so many wonderful partners and friends like you!  Thank you!

Gifts to Orphans in Kenya

Second, we want to continue to help feed and care for over 400 children at the orphanage and the school we sponsor.

Ebenezer Children’s Home and School in Kenya provides these orphans withfood, medicine, clothing, education, medical supplies, mosquito nets and the love of Jesus.  We already have a huge suitcase packed and filled with stuffed animals and toys for the orphans.

The children are very responsive to our ministry and they love it when we come to minister to them.  This is all done in a Christ-centered environment serving the children’s physical and spiritual needs.

Because of the generosity of others like you, we’ve also been able to provide for big items such as a new dining hall floor, kitchen, water tanks and more!

Of course, we could never do it alone.  Only through your generosity are any of these ministries to the underprivileged possible.

In the months leading up to each mission, we pray, plan and prepare so that God, thru his people, will fully fund the mission.  That’s what we’re doing right now in preparation for March.

Your gift at this time will help mobilize the trip in order for us to go and be a blessing to these folks.

Will you prayerfully consider helping the orphans and pastors by giving and making this trip possible in March 2018?

To pay for all the items mentioned above and more (for 170 pastors/church leaders & over 400 orphans), our estimated budget for our March 2018 mission trip is $25,427!  We need gifts of varying amounts: $50, $25, $100, $500, $1,000, $5,000 or more.

You can make a difference right away when you give:

  1. Through our website www.empowered-living.org (click on the “DONATE” button and give through our secure account); or

  2. By check (mail to EmPowered Living – 825 Water Elm Ct., Chesapeake VA 23320) date check by December 31, 2017 in order to receive your 2017 tax-deduction

We are so thankful for you and will be grateful for your gift!  Thank you in advance for your prayers and support Your help will be a blessing to the orphans, pastors and their church members and to all of us.

God BLESS You,

Dr. Daniel and Mary Beth Gilbert

Merry CHRISTmas to You

December 23, 2017

Love and Merry Christmas to You & Your Family! God has done some amazing things in 2017!  Daniel completed his first book, The Big 5: Discovering the Five Foundations Every Christian Should Know, that’s coming out soon.  His trip to Kenya in February-March was very fruitful; Maria’s studies and activities have been going very well despite the challenge of moving cross country, and Mary Beth’s first book as a contributing Author was published, Women who Rock!

In August 2017, we moved from Los Angeles back to Virginia Beach, VA where Daniel is now the Director of the Masters’ Programs and an Assistant Professor in Theology at Regent University ~ School of Divinity.  We are humbled and thankful to God for this wonderful new opportunity and enjoy being a part of the CBN and Regent community once again.

The great part is Regent appreciates the tremendous importance of EmPowered Living and our work in Kenya, Africa!  They grant Daniel to go twice a year and encourage all that we’re doing there.  They also support our desire to take students to Kenya with us, which we’re hoping to in March 2018 and over the summer.

Our move was hard for our daughter, Maria, as she is a Junior in High School.  However, due to many people praying and God’s mercy, she has transitioned quite well.  At her new school, she quickly became a part of the Quiz Bowl where they compete with other schools.  She is also is on the swim team and is auditioning for the spring school musical.  Maria has made a lot of friends and is making very good grades.  She still greatly misses LA and all her wonderful friends and school there but we’re so thankful she has embraced Virginia during this time of her life.

Mary Beth loves being home but is very busy between Daniel and Maria’s schedule and volunteering many hours a week to help our ministry, EmPowered Living.  She loves being back with friends she had here in Virginia from years ago and is enjoying the four seasons and being closer to our families.

On a sad note, Daniel’s father, Walter Gilbert, graduated to heaven in October.  Walter influenced so many people for the Lord.  It was an honor for Daniel to give tribute to his dad, leading the Graveside and the Memorial Services.

We continue to love serving the poor in Kenya through our ministry, EmPowered Living.  Not only will we be continuing our missions in Kenya, but there are other exciting plans to reach more people with the Good News of Jesus Christ!  Two of them are:

Daniel's book The Big 5:  Discovering the Five Foundations Every Christian Should KnowI. It will be officially launched, very soon (we've just been waiting on one more important endorsement).

Second, Daniel's video course, "The Power of the Blood!" is in process of being set up online through EmPowered Living and can be used for personal Bible Study and/or small group Bible Study.  It has a workbook with it as well.  It will make for a great study to do in the New Year!  We will let you know when it is available.

May Jesus, who came as a baby for our sake, BLESS YOU and give you His peace and joy this Christmas and may 2018 be a breakthrough year for you, one of the best years of your life!

Much love and warmth to you and yours this Christmas Season and in 2018!

God BLESS You,

Dr. Daniel and Mary Beth Gilbert

Giving Tuesday

November 28, 2017

EmPowered Living International Ministries has joined Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving powered by social media and collaboration!

Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for you to support our ELIM Bible Institute and the Orphanage we support in Kenya, Africa.

All proceeds will benefit the less fortunate in Kenya and are 100% tax-deductible.

We prayerfully request that you take this time to reflect on giving to EmPowered Living International Ministries to support those in need.

Your gift is a gift that will truly help the poor, when they need us most.  For some, it will be providing education that they otherwise would never get and desperately need to pastor a local church in Kenya!  For another, it will be the only meal a child will have that day, or medicine they will need to fight malaria with in order to survive.  For another, it will be the clothes to wear and school supplies they otherwise would not have.

You can receive your tax-deductible donation this calendar year, and you will be helping further our efforts to the poor and underprivileged in Kenya.

You can give a special gift today to make a difference by clicking:

Thank you for considering giving this season as we gear up for our 2018 ministry outreaches, and please accept our sincere gratitude for your support.

God’s blessings to you and yours this Holiday Season!
